Alanya is the perfect base for exploring some of Turkey's most spectacular natural and historical destinations. Within a one to three hour drive, you can visit ancient Roman cities, swim in turquoise canyon pools, explore vast underground caves, walk through dramatic gorges, and discover charming mountain villages untouched by mass tourism. Each day trip offers a completely different experience, from adrenaline-pumping adventure to peaceful cultural immersion.
All day trips listed here can be booked through Explore Alanya with free hotel pickup and professional English-speaking guides. We have personally done every trip on this list and can vouch for the quality, safety, and value of each experience.
1. Tazi Canyon & River Rafting Combo
This is our number one recommended day trip from Alanya. Tazi Canyon, also known as Eagle Canyon or the Valley of Wisdom, is one of the deepest and most dramatic gorges in Turkey, set within Koprulu Canyon National Park. Standing on the edge at 1,259 metres above sea level with panoramic views of endless pine forests and sheer cliff faces is genuinely breathtaking. After exploring the canyon, you descend to the river for a thrilling 14-kilometre white-water rafting adventure through the gorge, followed by a BBQ lunch at a riverside restaurant. The combo tour costs around 45 euros including hotel transfer, all equipment, guide, and lunch.
2. Aspendos, Side & Manavgat Waterfalls
This cultural day trip takes you west along the coast to three of Turkey's most impressive historical and natural sites. Aspendos houses one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world, still used for performances today with its original acoustic design intact after 2,000 years. The ancient city of Side features stunning Greek and Roman ruins including the Temple of Apollo dramatically positioned right on the seafront. The Manavgat Waterfalls complete the trip with a wide, powerful cascade surrounded by lush greenery and riverside restaurants. This full-day tour is ideal for history enthusiasts and anyone who wants to see Turkey beyond the beach.
3. Sapadere Canyon
Located just 45 kilometres from Alanya centre in the Taurus Mountains, Sapadere Canyon is a magical natural wonder carved over millennia by a crystal-clear mountain stream. A 360-metre wooden walkway is built directly over the rushing water, taking you through the heart of the gorge past dramatic waterfalls, natural swimming pools fed by ice-cold mountain water, and towering canyon walls covered in subtropical vegetation including fig, laurel, myrtle, and oleander trees. The water temperature stays at a refreshing 12 to 14 degrees year-round. Bring water shoes as the wooden platforms can be slippery. A BBQ lunch in the canyon area is included in the tour price of around 30 euros.
4. Demre, Myra & Kekova Sunken City
This is one of the longest but most rewarding day trips from Alanya, taking you approximately three hours west to the Lycian coast. The ancient city of Myra features extraordinary rock-cut tombs carved into cliff faces and a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre. Nearby Demre is famous as the home of St. Nicholas, the original Santa Claus, and you can visit the ancient church dedicated to him. The highlight is a boat trip over the sunken city of Kekova, where you can see the ruins of an ancient Lycian city submerged beneath the crystal-clear water. Swimming stops in secluded bays complete this incredible full-day experience.
5. Jeep Safari Through the Taurus Mountains
For a fun and adventurous day out that appeals to all ages, the Jeep Safari tour takes you off-road through the rugged Taurus Mountains in open-top Land Rover Defender 4x4 vehicles. The route passes through traditional mountain villages, banana and citrus plantations, and scenic viewpoints overlooking Alanya and the Mediterranean. Highlights include swimming in the pristine Dim River, visiting the spectacular Dim Cave with its 360-metre underground walkway, and a riverside BBQ lunch. The tour is famous for its water fights between jeeps, so wear clothes you do not mind getting wet. At around 27 euros with hotel transfer and lunch included, it is one of the best value excursions available.
6. Suluada Island Boat Trip
Often called the Maldives of Turkey, Suluada Island is a remote paradise with some of the clearest turquoise water in the entire Mediterranean. The visibility reaches up to 25 metres, making the snorkelling absolutely spectacular. The full-day boat trip from Alanya includes a scenic coastal cruise, multiple swimming and snorkelling stops around the island, and a BBQ lunch served on board. The island itself features dramatic white cliffs and peaceful lagoons that feel completely untouched. At around 61 euros, it is a premium day trip but worth every cent for the unforgettable natural beauty.
7. Antalya City Day Trip
The provincial capital Antalya is about two hours west of Alanya and offers a completely different urban experience. The charming Kaleici old town features narrow cobblestone streets, Ottoman-era wooden houses, boutique hotels, and atmospheric restaurants. Hadrian's Gate, built in 130 AD to honour the Roman emperor's visit, still stands as the entrance to the old city. The Antalya Aquarium is one of the world's largest, and the Duden Waterfalls where the river cascades directly into the sea is a spectacular natural sight. The city also offers excellent shopping at modern malls and traditional bazaars.
Booking Tips for Day Trips
